Threshold in Wedge Area

More of a conditions report as snow is below threshold in the Wedge area. We went up to potentially ski Rethel Couloir, an early season classic, and it was still too early season.

10-30cms of unconsolidated powder at 1920m and travel is definitely difficult. We hiked all the way to the lake. We put skis on at this point and very carefully skinned around up at this elevation. It was thin and we were hitting rocks constantly. After getting eyes on Rethel, it still seems boney and the travel over to the fan fairly technical. Not as much wind transport as usual in the area to fill it in. (The picture makes it look manageable but the snow is very unconsolidated.)

Ran into another pair of pure mountaineers with the same objective in mind that turned around as well.
